Microcatheter Components Brings Soft Thermoplastic Extrusions to Chamfr

From compliant balloons to soft delivery catheter segments, Microcatheter Components is your partner for the softest thermoplastic materials.

Microcatheter Components is now offering soft thermoplastic extrusions on Chamfr, giving R&D engineers direct access to the materials that matter most in interventional and neurovascular device design.

In neurovascular applications, there is no margin for error at the vessel wall. Unlike peripheral vasculature, cerebral vessels do not tolerate even minor trauma. Every component that contacts or navigates those vessels needs to be designed with that constraint in mind. The right soft thermoplastic extrusion in the right segment can be the difference between a device that navigates safely and one that causes harm.

What’s Available

Our soft material durometers run from Shore A 25 through 90, and from Shore D 25 through 35. That range covers the full working window for most interventional and delivery devices where compliance, flexibility, and tactile feedback are critical.

The materials we are now offering on Chamfr include NEUSoft™, Polyblend®, ReZalloy™, and Pellethane® but we have extensive experience working with other soft materials like Chronoprene®, Isothane®, Pebax®, Tecoflex™, Tecothane™, and Unisoft™.

A Note on Durometer Scales

The Shore A and Shore D scales overlap at the soft end of Shore D and the firm end of Shore A, which is where confusion usually creeps in. For example, ReZalloy 80A is softer than Pebax 25D.

The scale below shows the relative softness of Shore A and Shore D:

Let’s Talk Soft Materials

Softness, flexibility, elasticity, tear resistance, bondability, and time in the body are all factors in choosing the right material. We work hand in glove with our engineers and material suppliers to support our customers through every step of the selection process, from early feasibility through validation.
